Fairy Tales Are True… Italian Folk History

“The catalogue Fairy Tales Are True… Italian Folk History has been published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Museum of Civilizations. It offers a journey through the collections of Italian folk art and traditions, revealing the vitality and contemporary resonance of fairy tales and traditional knowledge. Inspired by Italo Calvino, the exhibition path weaves together stories, objects, and memories that speak of an agro-pastoral culture not confined to the past, but alive and capable of transformation. The volume comprises twelve booklets corresponding to the exhibition’s thematic sections, gathered within a boxed set. The first, introductory booklet includes four methodological notes, a map of the exhibition, an interview with Formafantasma, the studio responsible for the exhibition design, a text on accessibility, and introductory essays by Andrea Viliani, Director of the Museum, and Massimo Osanna. Each subsequent booklet contains an anthology of texts reflecting its respective exhibition section, along with a photographic selection of the displayed artifacts.”
